The Edge Of The Land.
Ritroviamo con piacere le sonorità dell’esordio, “Seasons come, people grow / Wounds heal, so deep below / Take your time, take your time / Show me now, what surrender brings / Peace and solitude, some wondering / Take your time, take your time“. La title track The Edge Of The Land si dispiega su immagini che richiamano l’oceano, pennellando con le note e con la voce una canzone malinconica. Da ascoltare, “The passion fires of yesterday / Still burn bright and can’t be washed away / By the salt tide that ebbs and sways / Shapes our land into what we see today / At the edge of the land“. Segue Silence On The Hillside, una canzone dalle atmosfere rassicuranti e tranquille. Katie Spencer ha la capacità di trasportarci in un posto sicuro, con semplicità e sincerità, “Silence on the hillside / You know, it feels like night time / But the birds sing, and the sun shines / And it’s deserted down in the valley / People with family / Sharing quiet stories at home“. Katie Spencer con poco riesce a fare molto, “I see you dancing in that confident way / Now I know, you were roaming around / In your infinite circle of doubt / And it all comes rolling back / Some of these memories have been kept hidden / Far off the beaten track / On the roads in my mind“. La voce della Spencer è delicata, ci prende per mano come una vecchia amica, “Someone’s burning his old wardrobe on the green / And all the kids are laughing / Barefooted on the grass / And the cold is coming in, it’s september again / And the streetlights, they flicker on and off / On and off, on and off / It’s the shannon road silent disco“. Tutto si allinea, musica e voce, in una splendida melodia, “Sadness is a teacher / Who we must come to know / He lets us know where we can go / Like the wind that bites my cheeks / Or like the jasmine in the evening / You make me strong, come the day“. Go Your Way è l’unica canzone non scritta dalla Spencer. When asked where you have been / Magic stories they do tell to me / You go your way oh my love / You go your way oh my love“. Una canzone dalle atmosfere notturne e distese, che si illumina di speranza, “All my answers come to me / In the night time, so softly / Sweet and gentle, as the snow falls / So quietly“. Before you go, I wish you well with your travelling / May the darkness turn to light within / God only knows what’ll happen then / You don’t know whether you’re coming or going / Forevermore, forevermore“.
The Edge Of The Land è un album che segna l’ulteriore passo in avanti di Katie Spencer verso uno stile proprio e riconoscibile.
